Its hard to articulate the passion which drives us. This aphorism always resonated.
Story goes: Some woman is walking past a construction site. She sees three bricklayers at work. She asks the first one what he's doing. In a gruff voice he shouts “Whudduz it look like I’m doin’? I’m throwin’ bricks!”
She asks the second bricklayer; he points to his mortar and trowel, and explains that he is constructing a wall.
Then she asks the third bricklayer. He gestures to the expanse of the project and exclaims proudly “I’m building a cathedral!"
Three bricklayers – doing the same job. Are they really, though?
Which one enriches the work, (and is enriched by the work,) demonstrating an attitude of abundance, positive energy, pride in craft.
Which one inspires other artisans?
Which one understands the big picture and his role in its development?
Which one would you hire?
